Vaccine is inactivated components of virus, which is injected to humans to give immune in order to prevent influenza.
Since the vaccines of today are invalid for new-type flu, we must develop a new vaccine. Infectious Disease Surveillance Center is researching a new vaccine from the bird flue virus provided from WHO, cooperating with four private maker-companies. They have already finished the animal test. They are aiming to do a clinical test to confirm its effect this year, and if possible, they would like to get approval by the end of the year. In fact, however, it takes at least 6 months to develop a vaccine for a new-type flu after it is discovered. Meanwhile, the only thing all we can do would be to prevent it from spreading with antiviral drugs. Even if the vaccine is completed, there is a limit in producing capacity. So either way, we have to fight the first wave of a new-type flu with only antiviral drugs.
After developing a vaccine, it would be distributed to?the following kinds of people first, if the provision is limited.
‘Medical workers’ (to prevent transmitting to their patients who can undergo serious condition.)
‘Social function keepers’ (who provide basic social services and can paralyze the society if down by infection.)
‘Medically high risk patients’ (who are suffering from underlying diseases like heart disorder and can die easily from infection.)
