Sugahara: Oh! That’s amazing!

While you read maniac books, and play outside, I have heard a story that you made a movie when you were still in a junior high school.

Yamazaki: Oh yeah, my story about movie in junior high school.
Well, I had in my mind that I want to take Science Fiction movie, and I find out that my uncle is having an 8mm video camera.
So, we went to ask him to borrow it, and then we found out that film seems like it is very expensive, and so we started to do part time job making an inventory in a supermarket.

Sugahara: How many of people were doing it?

Yamazaki: Maybe there were about 7 or 8 people.
As you know, it is always better to have more people, to get good income.

Sugahara: So, were you a boss at the group?

Yamazaki: Yeah. So, I was kind of patron (laughs). Each one could get 2500 yen everyday.
But if I take all 2500yen from them, I would have faced strong opposition from them, so I just took 1500yen, and made the movie with collecting money given as a gift at the New Year.

Sugahara: What kind of movie was it?

Yamazaki: It was science faction film.
While exploring the planet like the earth, nuclear war happens, and they get information that the earth has disappeared.
So, they had to find a new planet where they can emigrate, and then they find it, and then when they step down to it, it looks almost like the earth, and they feel like we can live here! And that is it. It is three minutes piece of work. (laughs)

Sugahara: Did you use make a model and used it in the movie?

Yamazaki: Yeah. It was in a third year in junior high school, so it was the year for my high school exams, but I lied to my parents that I go to school, and we were making many kinds of stuff in woodwork room.
My dad was running a wholesale business for the materials for sweets, and that’s why there was a warehouse that has machines for wrapping breads near my house.
So, we said it is the cockpit of a spaceship, and we gathered and we were acting there.
At that time, we had no black paper for back ground, and so we had to use the real starry sky for back ground and shooting scenes of the universe at mid night.

Sugahara: Wow that is so great! So, how was your first work, did it become very popular?

Yamazaki: I am from Matsumoto city in Nagano prefecture, and I think there might be some of junior high school students in Tokyo that are making independent films, but in Matsumoto city, it was so hard things to do.
The short film was screened in our school’s cultural festival, but there was very long line to see my film, and I could feel the joy of show enterprise.
All of students from our school came to see it, and they all laughed a lot.
Now, when I look back about at that time, I feel like they were just laughing because there was someone they knew (laughs).
But I have been mistaken from it that they loved my movie, and so many people came to watch it, and everyone was talking about it, and others were just showing how star sighs are, but we were showing movie, so we were in different level.
So, when there was a long line, and when the movie was succeeded, there came so much adrenaline rush through my system. And then I was like Movie!! That”s my only way It was quite care experience that I could do in my youth.

Sugahara: You told that you were in 8 members group, but did you have ability to organize the group? Because I feel like junior high school students like to fight easily, and so there might be sometimes they want to bee or something.

Yamazaki: No, no, I was not good at all
We had some fight all the time.
I was very strict to everyone, and to make the movie’s quality better, I could do anything.
I would say “I can not use this kind of stuff!” or “The quality of this model is not good at all, even though this is from the precious money that we collected together!”
Then, normally they should study for their high school entrance exams, but they came out of it, so they little by little got angry, and once we had serious big fight.
There is a white bond which is called as school glue, and I was sauced it on my back, and then I also got angry and then we were sousing the bond to each other.

I know that they have been so much stressed about many things
So, while ago, we were washing our hair that the bond were on it, and at last were giving a horse laugh, and then it was like friendship cemented by quarrels.

Sugahara
: When I hear the story, I can hear the lovely children in Matsumoto in Nagano Prefecture. It seems like the story you have told us can be one movie.

Yamazaki: Oh! Yeah right. We are thinking of making the film some day the story when we made that film. It was a terrible little movie, but still that was so interesting experience, so I will try to do it one day.

Sugahara: In this movie, you could take whole the prices instead of Yoshinaga Sayuri took it, but for my opinion, I thought the boy was acting the best.

Yamazaki: I know. I wish there were the Academy Awards for Kids

Sugahara: Why kids can not get anything?

Yamazaki: maybe, kid actors are just kid actor.or maybe there might be concerns that it is not that good fro their child’s education that they get too much attentions

Sugahara: I thought that this movie’s main actor is Junnosuke. Everyone was supporting him, and it was the story of two boys, friendship, and fighting, I think it was those kinds of stories.

Yamazaki: I’m very young in my mental age, so always I tend to make movies from a child’s point of view, but in my heart I am feeling that Junnosuke is quite leading this role.

Sugahara
: I think those all surroundings actors could get prizes because of those two kids were really lively in the movie. (Laughs)

Yamazaki: yeah, actually, we should gather money, and give them prize for kids

Sugahara: In that sense, as you have such boy’s heart, this movie comes very steadfast. I really loved this movie because of the flow of it, that the sad adopted boy changes rapidly to a lively boy, and then al last, the happy ending.

Yamazaki: This movie is about each ones will return to their correct positions.
At the end, Mr.Sagawa was quasi father, but he could become father, and Jyunnosuke who was adult children, but he started to get his childishness back.
He was kind of boy that gives up very easily.
However, at the end, when his father says him to go home, he could act like a baby, so he was getting back to child.
